Microsoft has revealed the official icon of the upcoming Windows Terminal, a Windows tool announced in the Build developer conference and due in preview later this summer.
Windows Terminal is supposed to completely overhaul the command line in Windows 10, because it includes all the benefits of Command Prompt (cmd.exe), PowerShell, and WSL in one place.
Announced with much fanfare at Build in May, Windows Terminal generated a great deal of excitement within the Windows userbase, and it is debut has become one of the very most anticipated moments of the season for Microsoft users.
As the work on rolling out a testing form of Windows Terminal continues, Microsoft recently revealed the official icon that the app will use if this goes live for Windows users.
The push for rounded corners
As you can see within the photo here, the Windows Terminal icon uses the same modern approach as Microsoft's latest icons, and it's based on Fluent Design with a hint of larger changes that may make their way to more apps across Windows 10.
For example, the rounded corners seem to become a key part of Microsoft's updated design language in Windows 10, as the clients are believed to be abandoning sharp corners, which powered the Metro UI in Windows, for a rounded version.
Microsoft is very keen on updating its icon collection with a modern design, and living proof is the Microsoft Office productivity suite. The company rolled out new icons for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel earlier this year, while new designs for Publisher and Access are presently being tested with help from insiders.
All these icons are pushed towards the platforms where the apps can be found, as Microsoft is targeting more consistency overall.
Windows Terminal is already on GitHub, but users need to manually compile it ought to they would like to try it out before the public launch from the preview version.

Google has already released a dark theme in Google Chrome, allowing the browser to complement the visual style of the operating system on both Windows 10 and macOS.
However, while the dark theme itself is already here, you will find parts of the browser which are still using the classic light theme, which is because a credit card applicatoin the size of Chrome can't just be overhauled overnight with this new mode.
The best example in connection with this is the template utilized by interstitial warnings in Google Chrome, which still use the classic visual style and do not follow the dark mode in the operating-system.
For starters, the interstitial warnings would be the messages that you will get when pointing the browser to pages which are referred to as dangerous and may represent a threat of malware infection for users. Google Chrome thus displays an alert before these pages are loaded, making you aware of the potential risks but nonetheless allowing you to continue to the website if you want it.
"When users visit a web page, browsers like Chrome look into the content that's loaded to ascertain if any part of it is potentially dangerous. When it detects a problem, the browser shows a warning, alerting users that content from the site we've identified as being malicious is being loaded. Oftentimes, we'll also flag the original site as malicious, which alerts the webmaster helping to safeguard potential users," Google explains.
Although this is a piece happening, users can already enable the dark theme within the interstitial warnings while using latest Canary build and a dedicated flag which has recently been put into the browser.
The first step is dependant on updating Google Chrome Canary to the new edition available today. During the time of writing this article, the most recent release is 77.0.3828.0.
Then, you need to enter the advanced flags configuration screen, that is possible by clicking the omnibox (the address bar at the top) and typing the following code:
chrome://flags
Next, use the search engine at the very top to look for the following flag in Chrome Canary:
Security interstitials dark mode
Should you just want to perform the event faster, copy the following code and paste it within the omnibox in Canary:
chrome://flags/#security-interstitials-dark-mode
The flag comes with a description that completely reveals its purpose:
"Security interstitials dark mode" Allows security interstitials to defend myself against a dark theme once the OS is switched to dark mode. - Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android #security-interstitials-dark-mode
Within the existing builds of Google Chrome Canary, the default state of this flag is disabled, so you have to click on the drop-down menu next to its name and switch it to Enabled. A reboot from the browser is going to be needed in order to save the alterations.
When you reload the browser, interstitial warnings in the search engines Chrome Canary should now stick to the dark theme from the operating system, obviously if enabled.
If you want to activate the dark theme in Windows 10, and therefore to allow it in Google Chrome too, you have to follow the next path:
Windows 10 > Settings > Personalization > Colors > Choose your color > Dark
Google doesn't provide users by having an option to make use of the dark theme in Chrome independently from the Windows 10 settings, so for instance if you want to enable this visual style having a light theme in Windows, this isn't possible for now despite user feedback with such a feature.

Among the features that Microsoft is working on for that new Microsoft Edge browser is a blocker targeted at auto-playing media, a company engineer confirmed.
Kyle Pflug, who's part of the Microsoft Edge team, confirmed on Twitter the company is already developing a feature that would block media that begins playing automatically on page load.
The behavior is going to be available either like a global feature, which means all auto-playing media is going to be blocked, or as part of a per-site rule, giving users additional control within the content they want to block.
"We're focusing on adding a worldwide and per-site setting similar to what we have in the current version of Edge," he explained on Twitter.
Blocking auto-playing media is a feature that's already available not only in other browsers available on the market, but additionally within the original form of Microsoft Edge too. This form of Edge is provided on Windows 10 as a native browser.
Preview builds on Windows and Mac
While there's no ETA as to when the feature could land within the Chromium-based browser, it shouldn't take too long for this to happen, especially as the app receives updates daily within the Canary channel and weekly for that Dev build.
At this time, only preview versions of Microsoft Edge can be downloaded, with support currently offered on Windows 10 and macOS. Microsoft said hello would also release Microsoft Edge preview builds targeted at older versions of Windows, because the transition to Chromium makes it possible for the app also to run on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
No specifics can be found regarding the release date from the stable Microsoft Edge browser, but Microsoft obviously provides extensive try to do, as several major features continue to be missing. If the development advances as planned, Edge may go love Windows users later this season.

If you installed the latest cumulative updates for Windows 10, the probability is that Ie 11 is not in a position to launch in your device.
Which is just because a bug within the latest round of cumulative updates breaks down the browser altogether, and also the application fails to launch.
Microsoft says it's all happening because the default search provider isn't configured or malformed, therefore the workaround virtually is dependant on setting this default search provider.
Before offering you the steps to get this done, here's additional info.
First of all, the problem is introduced by the May 2019 cumulative updates, also it exists on all versions of Windows 10 that received such updates recently.
"NOTE: Microsoft says it's already working on a fix, which should be released in mid-June. Probably, the software giant is waiting for the June 2019 Patch Tuesday cycle, that takes put on June 11."
Meanwhile, the workaround only is dependant on quick and easy steps that anyone can use.
First of all, you have to launch an elevated Command Prompt window, which is an instance of the app running with administrator privileges. To do this:
Start menu > type cmd.exe > Right-click Command Prompt > Run as administrator > Yes (in UAC prompt)
Next, in the elevated command prompt you need to type the following command to produce Internet Explorer without crashing:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://microsoft.com
Remember that not doing this might not allow you to launch the browser, as Ie crashes on each run.
When the browser expires and running in your device, you can change set the default search provider. To get this done, follow these steps:
Settings > Manage add-ons > Search Providers > Find more search providers
At this time, Internet Explorer should load a summary of search providers, letting you choose any in the list. Next, you simply need to click on the Add button for the search provider that you want to use in Ie.
Once you do that, Internet Explorer should run just fine, so the next step is the final test that ought to help you determine when the fix was applied correctly or not.
To get this done, simply close the browser instance that you launched from Command Prompt and then try to fire up Internet Explorer from the Start menu or its dedicated shortcut, if one does exist.
While this workaround helps restore Internet Explorer 11, it's very important to keep in mind that Microsoft recommends against using this app for other things that compatibility purposes within an organization. For browsing, Microsoft says you'd better result in the change to Microsoft Edge, which comes pre-installed on Windows 10. Obviously, you could jump to one of the numerous other third-party browsers available.
"You see, Ie is a compatibility solution. We're not supporting new web standards for it and, while many sites work fine, developers by and large just aren't testing for Internet Explorer these days. They're testing on modern browsers," Chris Jackson, Microsoft engineer, explains.
Meanwhile, Microsoft can also be working on its Chromium-based browser. Designed to switch the existing EdgeHTML-based Edge browser, the overhauled browser is already obtainable in preview on Windows 10 and macOS, with the final release date apt to be announced later this year.

The Your Phone app which allows users to sync their mobile devices with Windows 10 PCs can't be uninstalled in the desktop operating-system.
Your Phone makes it possible for Android users to access texts as well as talk to contacts right from their desktops. Furthermore, the most recent updates towards the app introduced new functionality, such as support for the photo gallery and screen mirroring, technically letting Windows 10 adopters use apps on their own smartphones having a mouse and keyboard.
While this is welcome functionality for Windows 10 users, not everybody really wants to make use of the Your Phone app, so there's no point in having it on their devices.
And yet, Microsoft has made the odd decision to bundle Your Phone with Windows 10, making it impossible for users to get rid of it.
"You just can't take away the app"
In a support document published on May 24, Microsoft notes the following:
"The Your Phone app is deeply built-into Windows to illuminate multiple cross-device experiences now as well as in the future. To be able to build more of these experiences between phones, PCs, and other devices, the app can't be uninstalled."
In other words, the reason you can't remove Your Phone is that its components are tied to those of Windows 10, so removing it could cause other issues around the device.
Obviously, why an easy method to remove the Your Phone app does not exist, there are other techniques to get it done. And while Microsoft does not recommend these techniques, including third-party apps capable for removing pretty much any unwanted Windows 10 app or module, it's important to note that doing this could indeed cause stability problems should any critical files be deleted.
We've reached out to Microsoft for information on what the elimination of Your Phone could cause on a Windows 10 tool and will update the content when and when a solution is offered.

Microsoft has released the very first official preview of its new Microsoft Edge browser for Apple's macOS platform.
While an internal build got leaked earlier this year, this is the initial official release announced by Microsoft, also it gives Apple's users the chance to check out the Canary build from the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser.
macOS 10.12 or above is required to install the app, and Microsoft promises that a Dev build is on its way to users too. The Dev version "will be released very soon" and it will allow users to operate it side-by-side with the existing Canary builds.
"Improvements specific to macOS"
Microsoft Edge comes to macOS with the same feature arsenal the Windows 10 sibling, but at the same time, it also introduces tweaks that are specific to Apple's platform.
"Examples of this incorporate a number of tweaks to complement macOS conventions for fonts, menus, keyboard shortcuts, title casing, along with other areas. You will continue to see the look and feel of the browser evolve in future releases once we continue to experiment, iterate and pay attention to customer comments," the Microsoft Edge team explains.
Because of the migration to Chromium, Microsoft Edge can thus expand beyond the borders of Windows 10. Microsoft promised to produce builds of the new browser on older Windows (Windows 7 and Windows 8.1) and on macOS. A Linux version can also be thought to be in the works, though details on this particular version haven't been shared.
When it comes to stable version, nothing is known at this point. Microsoft might be aiming to bring Microsoft Edge to beta and stable channels later this year, albeit right now finalizing the browser for Windows 10 devices is likely the priority. Unofficially, Windows 10 installer can also be used to set up the app on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, though no support is provided in this instance.
