Microsoft just announced that Microsoft Edge now supports switching profiles in PWAs. The feature has become readily available for all users, as long as they are running the browser on Windows 10 May 2020 Update or newer.

While you probably have no doubt about if you're a Microsoft Edge user, the browser already allowed easy switching between profiles when loading websites for work and private accounts, however the company has enabled the same functionality in web apps too.

PWAs have become increasingly essential for Windows 10 users, especially as they help deal with the possible lack of apps in the Microsoft Store. Simultaneously, increasingly more information mill adding PWA support for their websites, including search giant Google.

Earlier this year, Google has officially started offering a YouTube web app to users loading the website, and it's believed the organization can also be focusing on adding offline functionality.

Switching profiles in web apps

Microsoft says switching profiles web apps is really as easy as clicking on the profile icon within the title bar of the application that you are running.

"If you install exactly the same site or PWA on several Edge profile, we've introduced a profile switcher around the application title bar to switch between profiles from inside your app. With this experiment, you'll only see one application tile in Windows for that application. Also, once the application starts, it uses the final profile utilized by the applying," the company explains.

"The profile switcher within the title bar only displays if you have exactly the same app placed on more than one profile.

The new feature happens to be readily available for Windows 10 users, but expect Microsoft to include it to another versions of the browser within the coming months too.
