What's New in Windows Update KB4577063 for Windows 10 Testers

Microsoft has released a brand new Windows 10 preview build for insiders signed up for the Beta and Release preview channels of the testing program.

Specifically, Windows 10 build 19042.541 is available with the installing of cumulative update KB4577063, which is a preview of Windows 10 version 20H2, or the October 2020 Update.

First of all, one of the most notable improvements concerns the Windows Subsystem for Linux, which now works correctly because of this update. Previously, users running Windows 10 October 2020 Update preview builds couldn't launch WSL on their devices since the process failed with an "Element not found" error.

This update also introduces an alert for Ie 11 users that reminds support for Adobe Flash Player is due an end in December this season. Quite simply, if for whatever reason you'll still use Internet Explorer, you need to see a notification at the top of the screen that lets you know Flash Player is getting the ax.

Microsoft says it has also corrected a bug affecting Microsoft Edge IE mode and included fixes targeted at the Language Bar.

"We fixed an issue that, in some instances, prevents the Language Bar from appearing once the user signs in a new session. This occurs although the Language Bar is configured properly," the organization explains within the changelog that you could also check out entirely within the box following the jump.

There's also an essential bugfix aimed at applications using the Windows API to check to have an Internet connection. Microsoft says that these apps previously failed to launch, so now everything is designed to work effectively following the installation of cumulative update KB4577063.

"We fixed an element that might prevent applications from opening or cause other errors when applications use Windows APIs to check on for internet connectivity and also the network icon incorrectly displays "No internet access" in the notification area. This issue occurs if you are using a group policy or local network configuration to disable active probing for that Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI). This also occurs if active probing does not make use of a proxy and passive probes neglect to detect internet connectivity," the organization explains.

There are also important fixes for enterprises, as the new cumulative update resolves an issue hitting an organization Policy.

"We fixed an issue with setting the "Restrict delegation of credentials to remote servers" Group Policy using the "Restrict Credential Delegation" mode around the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) client. Consequently, the Terminal Server service attempts to use "Require Remote Credential Guard" mode first and will just use "Require Restricted Admin" if the server does not support ??Require Remote Credential Guard,'" Microsoft notes.

Windows 10 October 2020 Update has already been finalized, and users in the Beta and Release Preview channels are currently running the final build of this feature update. Microsoft is constantly on the focus on improvements and bug fixes, and these are given to devices using cumulative updates like the one we're referring to today.

Microsoft hasn't announced a release date as to when the October 2020 Update would begin the rollout to production devices, but if everything runs based on the plan, it shouldn't take lots of weeks before this is announced. As per Microsoft's typical release calendar, the fall feature update for Windows 10 is finalized in September, as the rollout to the first wave of devices kicks off in October or November. Judging from its name, the October 2020 Update should find our computers beginning next month.
